Since 2012, over 100,000 homes and businesses in Gloucestershire have got superfast broadband, thanks to investment from Conservative-run Gloucestershire County Council and the government, via the Fastershire broadband project.  Plans are in place to continue the momentum – with another 23,000 county homes expected to be connected in coming months.

Council leader Mark Hawthorne welcomed the news: “Fast reliable broadband isn’t a luxury – it’s vital for homes and businesses in our area.  This has been the largest civil engineering project in Gloucestershire since electrification – and there’s still more to do - but 100,000 properties in seven years is remarkable progress.

Gloucestershire is moving faster than many other rural areas – partly because the Fastershire project was one of the first in the country.  The project has won national recognition – picking up awards for the best alternative broadband provider in industry awards.

Prime Minster Boris Johnson has previously highlighted the importance of delivering full fibre broadband to homes across the UK – making it a key plank of his leadership pitch.  Find out more about Fastershire at their website:
