The seat for Gloucester is centred on the cathedral city and county town of the same name. Since 1979, Gloucester has been a bellwether constituency by passing between representatives of the two largest parties in the same way as the government. After nearly three decades as a Conservative seat, it was held by Labour from 1997 to 2010 before returning to a Conservative on a swing of 8.9%.
The city itself is located on the eastern bank of the River Severn and was founded by the Romans in AD 97. Famed for its beautiful Romanesque and Gothic cathedral, Gloucester is home to a number of medieval and Tudor period gabled and half timbered houses, as well as an inspiring Victorian docks, which is the most inland port in Britain. More recently, Gloucester has gained recognition for its love of rugby with the local team, Gloucester Rugby, winning the European Challenge cup in the 2014/15 season.
Gloucester Conservative Association is a voluntary body that promotes the election of Conservatives to elected positions in Gloucester.
